With football season in full swing, students all across Texas are tailgating on Saturday mornings as they get revved up to watch their college take on that week's challenging opponent. Let's face it; many of these pre-game celebrations involve alcohol and college officials are well aware of that fact.

College officials across the state are focusing on regulating these student activities and TCU is no different. According to Student Body President Brent Folan, the restrictions this year are even stricter than originally intended.

University officials have asked that the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission will help them cut down on not only underage drinking, but drunk driving and disorderly conduct as well. Some of the tailgating areas will actually be staffed by individuals with the commission or those who have undergone TABC training.

The university is not planning on selling alcohol itself, but it will regulate what is brought onto the campus. University officials have asked that in certain designated areas that will be completely fenced in, those who bring their own alcohol will have it served by those who have been trained by TABC officials.

Some of the fenced-in areas will have two separate sections, one that will allow those who are 21 into the area and one that will allow fans of all ages. Officials with the university claim that the increased awareness is due to alcohol-related problems that have occurred on campus in the past. In fact, these problems led to the school banning tailgating in 2008 after TCU tailgating was ranked second in Tarrant County for alcohol-related citations.
